EDP Renewables North America LLC has gone through several stages and business models. The Company began in 1998 as a “build-transfer” developer known as Zilkha Renewable Energy, followed by a period of ownership by Goldman Sachs as a “developer-owner-operator” beginning in 2005. EDP acquired the company then known as Horizon Wind Energy on July 2, 2007. In December 2007, Horizon’s ownership was transferred from EDP to EDPR. In June 2008, EDP listed 22.5% shares of EDP Renováveis in an initial public offering on the Euronext Lisbon Stock Exchange, upon which it immediately became a member of the benchmark Portuguese Stock Index-20 (PSI-20) as its fifth-largest company by market capitalization.
